Has followed 'most anxiously' all the news of Henry Sidgwick's illness since she heard of it; explains that she had not written earlier because she knew that Nora would not want more letters. Expresses her loving sympathy with both of them in the wake of Henry's operation. Recalls the 'happy intercourse and stimulating companionship [which] came from [their] friendship' with Henry and Nora over the years: the Sidgwicks have filled a place in her and [her husband] Arthur's life which can be compared only with that held by their 'nearest and dearest....' Trusts that the good progress made by Henry is maintained, and asks Nora to give him her love.
