Archival history

The documents in this section formed part of the deposit of material in 1959 by Lord Houghton's daughter in law Lady Crewe; many gatherings can be matched with ones appearing in A. E. Scanes' list made shortly after Houghton's death, see HOUG/HC. Once at Trinity, the papers were arranged and indexed at some point in the 1960s or 1970s. No references in the 100s seem to have been used; references 201-217 were initially assigned to Houghton's Commonplace Books, now HOUG/G/1-17.
