William Gossip, library keeper of Trinity College, delivered a certificate to the General Quarter Sessions of the peace at the Guildhall in Cambridge on the 16 July 1729. He had taken the sacrament of the lord's supper according to Church of England guidelines in the parish of the Holy and undivided Trinity. In court, he took the anti-papist oaths required by the 1673 Test Act and the 1714 Security of the Sovereign Act.
The document is written in a different hand to Yorke's signature.
