        History

        George Cole Bainbridge, a merchant of Liverpool, was an amateur artist and print-collector. He was born in Jamaica on 6 March 1788.

        On 7 January 1808 he married Jane Hobson at St Peter's, Leeds.

        In 1816 he published The Fly Fisher's Guide, illustrated by himself.

        He purchased Gattonside House near Melrose in 1824, and died there in 1839.
