History
Anne Blackwell was born in 1743 or 1744, since she was seventy-seven years of age at the time of her death (see below). She was the daughter of James Lenox Naper, or Napper (1712–1776), an Irish landowner of Loughcrew, County Meath, who changed his last name to Dutton on succeeding to estates in England in 1743, and moved to Sherborne in Gloucestershire. The chronological relation of Anne’s birth to these events is uncertain, and it is therefore uncertain whether she was born in Ireland or England, and whether her surname at birth was Naper or Dutton, though she certainly bore the name Dutton at the time of her marriage to Samuel Blackwell of Ampney Park (1731–1785) on 15 January 1760. She died at Holkham on 27 March 1821.
Mrs Blackwell wrote to Dawson Turner in 1820 in relation to her grandson George Graham Blackwell, then at Oxford, who paid a visit to the Turners during the long vacation of that year.
