Unidad documental simple 13.3 - Correspondence of Dawson Turner

1 volume, measuring about 27 x 24 x 10 cm, containing two title-leaves, an index, and 249 letters and other papers pasted onto guards, interspersed with blank leaves (four after the index and four after the second title page). One of the title-pages is at the beginning, followed by the index; the other is between Nos. 98 and 99. There is a stiff fly-leaf at the front and another at the back. Half-bound in light-brown leather and marbled paper.

The letter from Francis Turner was probably removed by mistake instead of the letter from Cotman which follows it (No. 125).

On the spine is stamped ‘CORRESPONDENCE | JAN.–DEC. | 1804–1805’. There are two title-leaves, one for each year, but only one index. Turner has marked many of the letters with the date of his reply, and added pencil dates at the head of most of the letters which are either undated or dated at the end. The volume contains one letter from 1802 (No. 113) and one from 1806 (No. 187).
