Geschiedenis
Doran’s entry in Alumni Dublinenses is as follows: ‘DORAN, JOHN WILLIAM, Pen. (Mr Martin), Oct. 16, 1820, aged 21; s. of Patrick, Generosus; b. Dublin. B.A. Vern. 1824. LL.B. and LL.D. Æst. 1831.’ He was ordained as a deacon by the Bishop of London at Fulham Palace on 19 Dec. 1824, aged 23 (CCEd, citing Guildhall Library 9532/A/2 (Episcopal Act Book)), and was 60 years of age at the time of the 1861 census, which records that he was born at ‘Cullanna [or Culluna] Maryboro’ Queens Co Ireland’. Maryborough is now known as Portlaoise, and Queens County as County Laois; ‘Cullanna’ is perhaps a phonetic spelling of Cullenagh.
