        1816: founded; 1952: T & H Smith bought Duncan Flockhart; by 1960, T & H Smith and J.F Macfarlan merged to form Edinburgh Pharmaceuticals; 1963: the Glaxo Group bought Edinburgh Pharmaceuticals and used the name Macfarlan Smith Ltd.
