Correspondence, drafts, printed material, and photographs for Shaffer's first hit play, 'Five Finger Exercise,' which was directed by John Gielgud and opened 16 July 1958 at the Comedy Theatre, London. The bulk of the material dates from 1958-1959, and includes a script with an alternate title [the original title?] 'Retreats.' A scrapbook containing cuttings, handbills, and photographs for plays from 1958 to 1966 has been placed in this subseries, SHAF B2/3/8.
