        Historique

        Andrew John Hodgkin, the son of Howard Hodgkin, was born at 38 Palace Gardens Terrace, London, on 14 January 1899, and educated at Leighton Park School, Reading. During the First World War he was a conscientious objector. On 22 April 1919 he was admitted at Trinity College, Cambridge, and he graduated from there with a BA in 1921. In the late 1920s he emigrated to New Zealand, where he became a sheep farmer. In 1931 was living at Four Peaks, Geraldine, and he later lived at Moa Flat, Heriot. He married twice, and died on 9 September 1980.
