Describes a visit to William Wilberforce and family at Highwood Hill. Perhaps by Hon. Florence Milnes?
Backsettown Farmstead, Henfield, Sussex.—Invites him to a wreath-laying ceremony at Westminster Abbey to commemorate William Wilberforce’s bicentenary.
Backsettown Farmstead, Henfield, Sussex.—Encloses tickets (to the commemoration of William Wilberforce's bicentenary; see 3/299).
Brighstone Rectory, Newport, I[sle] of Wight. - Saw Milnes' poems circulated by Stafford O'Brien; begs own copy; offers next edition of his father's Life in return, since 'O'Connell has made all mendicancy so distasteful...'
Bath. - Glad to hear of Richard's improvement: mistaken belief that Milnes had arrived led him to fear the worst. Milnes' present state of depression should be resisted as an obstacle to religious faith; low self-esteem not a substitute for true repentance (quotes examples); value of prayer. Small section of letter missing near end. Is leaving for Chobham [Place?] on the 20th; the waters at Bath beneficial; Wilberforce is here with his family; Milnes should study his book on religion.
