Part of Papers of Sir Peter Shaffer

173 Riverside Dr. -- The film is a huge success, went to see it with Tom Hulce and saw huge crowds of people; isn't too happy with the film, is almost too 'pop' in its characterisation and Americanisation, but is glad it is a success; tries to read as few reviews as possible, 'since I believe only the bad ones (as usual) and some are a bit deserved'. Letter is possibly incomplete, as it lacks a closing signature.

Part of Papers of Sir Peter Shaffer

Went to see 'Equus' with a nephew, and is baffled that each time it feels new and the questions raised as if for the first time; has announced his resignation from the Health Service and will go to work in the Civil Service; saw Miller's 'After the Fall' on television and found it had wonderful moments but finds the reiteration 'like some dreadful drilling of some fearful neurotic'; encountered Peter's father at the physiotherapist, 'invested him with Shafferness which made my approach very particular and enthusiastic...he must have been baffled.'
