Church Cottage, Northfield, Worcestershire. - Was engaged as a clerk in the Examiner's Office of the Customs but resigned to join Garibaldi's army last autumn; served throughout campaign; Milnes' recent rebuke to the MP who saw '"the finger of God in the death of Count Cavour"'; hopes this sympathy will induce him to assist Bowra in regaining his post; Sir William Verner will vouch for his character; has permission to compete for a student interpretership in Japan but may have to wait years for a vacancy; quotes personal particulars and referees.
