This is a copy of the selection of Kathleen Thomson's letters to which Thomson refers in A.2, kindly made available by Mr. D.P. Thomson.
The Foreword, by Thomson, is dated 28 June 1968, and the letters run from 20 March 1924 to 1 December 1941. Kathleen Thomson died on 22 December 1941.
Contents of folder inscribed 'Georgie's engagement (letters of congratulation)'. Correspondence to Lady Thomson from family and friends on the engagement of her son G.P. Thomson to Kathleen Buchanan Adam Smith. Includes one letter from G.P. Thomson to his mother, 26 July 1924, and one letter from G.P. Thomson to his father, 28 July 1924.
The papers in this collection are mostly those of J. J. Thomson, his wife Rose, and their children George and Joan. Papers of George's children John and David largely relate to biographies, commemorative events (particularly re the 1997 centenary of the discovery of the electron) and memorials to their father and grandfather, although a few personal papers of theirs are included.
