Trinity College Cambridge. - Was elected a fellow of Trinity today, will be 'sworn in' tomorrow, and hopes to be in his 'little room at dear Rothley Temple' on Tuesday night. Has been given to understand he 'stood first of the Candidates', and the examiners say he 'passed a very brilliant examination'. [Henry] Malden is also elected; Macaulay is 'not so glad off this as in other circumstances' he would have been, as 'Malden intends to marry in December. More fool he! But women make fools of the wisest of us'.

London. - Has little time to write, but must thank his uncle for his 'kind note'; was very glad to see his 'hand so completely what it used to be; and hopes this indicates his uncle has recovered completely. Is 'overwhelmed with work': is writing a 'History of France since the Restoration', to be published on the first of April, and hopes he will 'not prove an April fool'. Adds postscript: 'I have given Sadle, I think, a decisive and final answer'
