Part of Papers of Robert Calverley Trevelyan and Elizabeth Trevelyan

[On headed notepaper for 8 Grosvenor Crescent, S.W.]:- Is 'so very sorry to hear about Grandpapa Trevelyan [his illness or death?], it is very sad indeed'. Thanks his mother for the hamper, which he and Blackwood greatly enjoyed. Thinks he and Charlie are getting on very well; they both went to tea with Mr [J. W.?] Cunningham, who Robert thinks has the house G. O. Trevelyan stayed in when he first went to Harrow. Mr Cunningham is old and 'very pleasant'.

Thinks there will be a rehearsal of the speech day tomorrow. It is 'very cold', and if the weather continues he thinks he will 'not go to ducker [the outdoor swimming pool]'. Has received a letter from Mr Arnold, who says they [Wixenford School] have won a match against Mortimer: the school seems to be 'getting better at games'. Hopes Georgie is well.

Part of Papers of Robert Calverley Trevelyan and Elizabeth Trevelyan

[On headed notepaper for Wallington, Cambo, Northumberland]: - Thanks his mother for her letter; Charlie has lent him his letter to read as well. Was '3rd this fortnight, and Charlie was 12th, Goetz was top and Giffard second'. Does not think Charlie did badly, since he had missed a fortnight [due to illness]; he 'may still get his fez but it is not certain'; went for a walk with him today. Is glad their father is 'enjoying himself'. They have all got fires now. Is 'enjoying footer very much'. Will work hard this fortnight to see if he can come first; he will at least get his remove. Hopes his parents will get the gate for the terrace if it is not too expensive. The weather has been fine today so 'the footer-field will not be so wet'. Blackwood went back to India last Monday. Had house singing yesterday, and sang 'Bojon [?E. E. Bowen]'s new song'.

Thanks his mother for her letter. Was '1st this fortnight': Bird mi[nor], previously top of the form, is second, Giffard third, and Goetz fourth. Will write to Mr Arnold today. Charlie is third, but Robert thinks he has 'done well, so perhaps he will be 1st another fortnight'. Is getting on well; it rained hard this morning, but has been fine this afternoon. Went 'into speecher' [the Speech Room] with Charlie to hear the organ. Thinks [Basil?] Blackwood will 'like a hamper very much, as he cannot get any from home' [since his father is Viceroy of India?].

Robert hopes 'Papa is quite well'. The [General?] elections will be 'very exciting': supposes 'nobody knows which way they will go'. Welldon 'preached a very good sermon today'. Has entered for the 'Pemba [sic: Pember] Grammar Prize (lower school)' this week, but does not think he has a chance of winning it.
