Laird worked with Synge as a laboratory assistant at the Rowett Research Institute and moved with Synge to the Food Research Institute, Norwich. He subsequently worked at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Torry Research Station, Aberdeen.

With W.M. Laird and S. Matai, Bibliog. 100 (1970). This was initially submitted to the Journal of the Chemical Society but rejected as of insufficient scientific interest. A revised version was accepted by the Biochemical Journal.
