Part of Crewe Manuscripts
The inscription on the spine is indistinct. The volume contains two separate manuscripts, both in the hand of Giovanni Antonio Papini. The first manuscript contains the statutes of the Compagnia della Misericordia of Florence (ff. 1r–10r); the second, ‘Diceria di Santa Nafissa Al Sesto Re della Virtu’ (ff. 1r–4r), by Annibale Caro, and ‘Che non è ingiuria il dire Tu se’ un Bue’ (ff. 5r–29v), by Papini himself. The first of these texts, headed ‘Capitoli della Compagnia della Miseria’ (sic), was copied by Papini from a transcript made by Antonio Maria Biscioni of a manuscript of about 1478 (see f. 10v); the second was copied by him on 23 November 1731 from a manuscript belonging to Gaetano Bernestat (see f. 4r).
