Riga. Dated 10 Februar 1889 - In answer to his enquiry, her husband [Georg] died before the [Wilhelm] Mannhardt manuscript, 'Denkmäler der Letten-preussischen Mythologie' could be published; it is now in the hands of Professor [Adalbert] Bezzenberger.
Königlich Preussische Akademie der Wissenschaften. Nürenbergerstrasse 65 II, Berlin W.50 - Gives a history of Mannhardt's archives and states that if the work of Dr Bielenstein is approved, they will publish; mentions Frazer's stepson [Grenville] Grove.
Wurzen - Thanks him for the second edition of 'The Golden Bough'; the students in Germany who have not had much access to worthwhile research in anthropology will benefit from this second edition; Wilhelm Mannhardt is not so lucky, and complains of the indifference of his peers to his research; is heartened by the success of Erwin Rohde's 'Psyche'; questions Frazer's interpretation of the legend of the death of the great Pan, which he has investigated in a classical philology journal in 1892, and regrets he does not have a copy of the article to send to Frazer.
bei Peters, Jaeger Strasse 67, Berlin - [Georg] Berkholz has been dead for two years and his work is in the hands of Heinrich Diederichs; [Wilhelm] Mannhardt's MS is probably there as well; will send a copy of [Eadwine's Canterbury] Psalter.
