Ashby de la Launde, near Sleaford. - Has 'sent off the tribute [a portion of his shooting bag] in accordance with our Original Protocol'. Next year it will be shot from the Ashby Coverts, as he has ordered 'the utter extirpation of the acclimatised bird of Phasis from the Martin Wood, the Raids you alluded to [by poachers?]... being too vexatiously & the system of decoy too glaring to be endured' either by King or by his keeper, who has worked for him for 34 years. 'Timberland & Fryston consequently I guess by my edict will suffer'.

Ashby de la Launde, near Sleaford. - Re shooting in Houghton's part of Martin Wood, Timberland; has 'collected the Tribute by my own gun, with some in addition for my own larder'. The birds are 'not as fat as usual'; asks that they be kept separate from the others in Houghton's larder: it is usual now to feed pheasants on 'Indian Corn - which causes the flesh to be dry and insipid - & the flesh is yellow - & soon rancid. Whereas these birds have been fed on Barley and Pease'.
