The book, appearing under the pseudonym 'Robert Franz' but in fact by Olga Janina, who had been a lover of Franz Liszt, and was intended to be read as a roman-à-clef about their relationship. Annotations in Milnes' hand at top of cutting 'Mad[emoise]lle Eichtmal [?]' and 'M[ada]me Janina'.
