Notes and drafts for an unfinished book on authorship in medieval literature, together with scripts of a few unpublished lectures given by Green, and a small amount of correspondence with other scholars in related fields: Nigel F. Palmer, Malcolm B. Parkes, and David Dumville.
Green, Dennis Howard (1922-2008), philologistThree letters with Palmer’s detailed comments on Green’s chapters on Erec, Tristan, and Parzival in Women and marriage in German medieval romance.
Handwritten notes and drafts, with notes on the introduction, outlines for chapters 1-5, and drafts of chapters 4-5 and the bibliography. The chapters are titled 1. Revolt of medievalists, 2. Auctores, 3. Anonymity and naming, 4. Dependence on source, 5. Inspiration. Entirely written in Green's hand, although chapter 5 is a photocopy of the original draft with corrections and footnotes added in red ink. Some of the notes and drafts are written on the verso of drafts of Green's writings, photocopied articles, and parts of correspondence: cover letters from other Trinity Fellows transmitting reports, a letter from a charity, and an email from Nigel Palmer to Hansa Chauhan (Fellows' Secretary, Trinity College) dated 4 June 2008 intended for Dennis Green, which appears on the verso of notes for chapter 5. The material on the verso of the drafts is dated 2005-2008.
