Joseph Sager, whose widow received an allowance from the late Mrs [Rachael?] Milnes; has suffered many trials; describes his progress to the West Country; no income since closing school here last Christmas; Lady Galway left £500 to Joseph Sager's children in 1837, but without the burial certificate of his father Charles he cannot claim his portion; seeks Milnes' support.

4 Deptford Bridge, Deptford, Kent. - Must visit the sea owing to recurrence of complaint; has found a situation at £15 a year; vital support by Milnes and Lady Galway's Trustees; encloses letter from Mr Wyndham who gave £5 as a result of Milnes' testimonial.

Enclosure: letter, postmarked 24 May 1841, from Wadham Wyndham, MP to Charles Sager, written in 3rd person. Arthurs Club, St James St. - Now residing in London; can offer some financial relief. Pencilled shorthand on seal flap and back of envelope.

Burbage nr Hinckley, Leicestershire. - Seeks advice as to disposal of books formerly owned by his grandfather. Does not know whereabouts of his aunt Mary Ashson; a doctor at Ilkeston recommends sea bathing; hopes to return to Town; accepts God's will despite its terrible effects.

Penryn. - Surprised not to have heard from Milnes; continued lameness.

Green Bank, Falmouth. - Return of Charles Sager; he underwent Galvanic treatment in Exeter for paralysis of the legs; encloses letter; has always found Sager inoffensive and believes he was unfairly persecuted by his own flock, the Independent Dissenters.

Enclosure: letter, 9 Aug. 1848, from Charles Sager to Richard Byrn Kinsman. 34 Paul St, Exeter. - Asks Kinsman to write to Milnes to seek further assistance from Lord Galway; owes rent; received an encouraging letter from Mr [Sills?] of South Street, Exeter.

St Keverne. - Milnes' advice concerning Lady Galway's legacy; needs support but refused a place offered by a local clergyman on a matter of conscience; seeks a tutorship or Government post; thanks for [cash?] gift.

Green Bank, Falmouth. - Acknowledges £8 on behalf of Charles Sager; touched by response to this 'poor, afflicted & simple minded man'.

London. - Delighted to have [school] position secured by Milnes; asks when the first payment is to be made.

At Mr Thomas Crouch's, Folkestone, Kent. - Was about to take up situation when struck by glandular inflammation; forced to recuperate by the sea; prospect of employment here.
