Portswood Lawn, Southampton. - Met Houghton at an Archaeological Association meeting in 1863; can he assist Miss Cooper, who is writing a life of Lady Arabella Stuart and requires access to manuscripts at Campsall Hall. Miss Cooper is the daughter of the Presbyterian Minister of Framlingham and a respected author. Enclosures: letter, 14 Sept. 1865, from Elizabeth Cooper to Edmund Kell, 22 Talbot Terrace, Westbourne Park, W. - Encloses note explaining request; believes a personal recommendation may be the only way to see the manuscripts. Note detailing manuscripts relating to Lady Arabella Stuart collected by Dr Nathaniel Johnston, with information on Cooper's work and list of referees.

Embossed notepaper, Campsall Hall, Doncaster. - Johnson [sic: properly Nathaniel Johnston] MSS here are very disordered, but Mr Walbran of Ripon is arranging them; will gladly allow historical researchers to inspect them when sorted. Cannot confirm existence of Arabella Stuart material as he cannot read the writing. Mr Walbran has also noted valuable manuscripts of Mr Frank, Recorder of Doncaster.
