Llewelyn's debts arose from him living beyond his means as a schoolmaster and curate in Sussex; he has talents but his habit of writing begging letters is disreputable; Copleston has forbidden him to use his name; this and perhaps most of the other letters were written by his wife, perhaps without his knowledge; Llewelyn has already received several sums of money but his distress is real.
