Wakefield. With enclosure: letter, 30 Jan. 1873, from Archibald Briggs, Stanley Hall, Wakefield, to John Oldroyd Greaves, declining the offer of a lease of Lord Houghton's Haigh Moor coal. Greaves assures Houghton that he has other applicants, and thinks he 'can make satisfactory arrangements with the gentlemen I mentioned from Dewsbury and Batley'.
Wakefield. With enclosure: copy of letter, 31 Jan. 1873, from the Wheldale Coal Committee, Castleford, accepting the offer of Lord Houghton's Warren House coal, which is surrounded by that belonging to Queen's College Oxford, provided that the price is raised and that Queen's give permission for Houghton's coal to be taken out through the pits. Greaves recommends Houghton to agree to the terms.
Wakefield. - Gives address of Joseph Blakeley; settled the terms of the draft agreement with Blakeley and Arundel last Tuesday and Arundel was to send Houghton a copy; expects to come to town next week to oppose the Wakefield Waterworks Bill in the Commons Committee.
