On headed notepaper, Royal Exotic Nursery, Kings Road, Chelsea, S.W. - The latest packet from Veitch's agent in Batavia [Jakarta, Indonesia] has just been received, so that he can confirm 'the sad information of Henry Hutton's death'. Encloses particulars received from Mr Tolson which came for Mr Rigg of Jasinga, 'on whose property [Hutton] was when he died', as well as two family letters [no enclosures now present]. Veitch's agents are looking after Hutton's effects from Jasinga and Batavia and will despatch all that are 'worth sending home as soon as possible'. It is 'a very sad & melancholy satisfaction to have the enclosed particulars of the poor fellows end & burial'; grateful to Mr Rigg.
Would be glad to have the letters from Hutton previously sent to Houghton, as well as the present enclosures, returned. If Hutton's family wishes to have his last letter to us 'they shall surely have it to keep' as soon as Veitch has had it copied. Adds postscript, asking Houghton to convey sincere regrets for their bereavement to Hutton's relations [he was the son of the head gardener at Fryston, Abraham Hutton].
