(Transcript by Turner. At the head is written, ‘The original is among Autographs (Series B).’ Dated 3 Aug. 1813, but the text is the same as that of No. 54, which is dated 1812. It is unclear which year is correct.)
The Hermitage, Elstead, Godalming.
Hillingdon House, Uxbridge.
Identified, presumably by Kate Symons, as 'A E H aged 4?' in list. The bottom part of the frame insert has been torn away, revealing note, 'I - 4 1/4 [months?] -'.
(Dated and postmarked 29 Jan., but ‘Jan. 17’ has been written at the head in pencil.)
(Pasted to the letter is a cutting from a newspaper recording the presentation of Pugh’s father to the living of Sible Hedingham. Turner has added some biographical notes on the younger Pugh.)
First lines: 'Said the laughing Hyena / While mouthing a man...' MS note on back dates the verse to 1846.
(Declaimed 28 Feb. 1805.)
(Printed on the same sheet is a note from Boydell & Nicol to subscribers to their edition of Shakespeare.)
