Scope and content

Grays Inn - JPB gives his theory on the differences between acute and grave pitches, and the different rapidity of vibrations of the particles of air. He thinks the Bridgewater Treatise (Vol. 3, p.122) has got it wrong - the gravest pitch should be 32 vibrations in a second and not 80, while the most acute should be 8192 vibrations [the no. of vibrations doubles per octave and the full range of musical sound is 8 octaves] as opposed to 1000.
