Scope and content

Herstmonceux, Hailsham - JCH has been too busy to answer WW's questions about their etymological papers: 'I too have sometimes had thoughts of sending our two papers to the Philological Society, but have refrained from doing so because I cd not find any means of finishing them. To do so on the scale of the earlier part wd be impracticable, without the help of public libraries: nor wd my eyes now be patient of such researches: but I now and then indulge a hope that, if I can ever clear off my score of promist books, I may work up the materials, which I have, in the form of references, to wind up our two papers, so that the labour spent on them may not be utterly wasted, and that I may publish a little volume of Etymological and Philological Essays'. However he sees no chance of completing the paper for the next year or two. Chevalier Bunsen spent a pleasant week with him.
