Dear Dr. McKerrow,
I am writing to acknowledge the safe arrival of Capell (10 vols.) and Theobald (2 vols.). Thank you very much for the loan of them.
I am rather troubled by what you say about the time it takes you to go through my notes. Is there any way in which I could make this easier—e.g. writing more legibly, using slips more easily handled? I do hope that, if there is anything I habitually do that you find irritating and a waste of your time, you will tell me. There are times when I wonder if I am not proving more trouble than I am worth.
Yours sincerely,
Alice Walker.
