Rectory Sundridge [Kent]. - 'You are aware that as Rector I have not the power of myself to make a grant of the Church Tower for the purpose of erecting a Telegraph. At the same time, so far as I may have a voice or influence, I should be disposed, in the first instance, for the sake of the public object, to give the proposal a favourable consideration, and to introduce the subject with every fair advantage.... it would... promote the prospects of success. if the Admiralty were willing and competent to make any engagements for the removal of the telegraph, in the event of its turning out a nuisance intolerable...'
