Scope and content

Carlton on Trent, Newark, Notts. - Is trying to 'reduce the Pasquinade in readable Italian. Hopes that Woolley and Aldis Wright will both accept the Countess's invitation for Monday. Has 'quite forgotten the game of Primiera' which he played occasionally in southern Italy, 'nearly half a century ago', but remembers 'enough for getting the key of the epigram'; the game is still played today, and he can talk to some Neapolitans in London to refresh his memory of it.

Text in Italian follows letter, headed 'Interlocution Pasquino & Marforio Romano'
