Portée et contenu

Out of the question to set Milnes an 'imposition'; Romilly would 'conceive it altogether derogatory to your acquirements & the ardour who have always exhibited in the pursuit of knowledge'. Romilly only confined Milnes to gates because 'the late hours which you & your friends keep are utterly incompatible with the discipline & the studies of the place'. Since Milnes' academic career has not been affected, the objection does not apply to him individually; Romilly will 'therefore revoke the absolute order about gates' and Milnes may go out to dinner today and 'attend the house tomorrow'; asks him as a 'personal favour to keep earlier hours for the short time that we are to have the pleasure of having you among us'.
