Transcript

My dear Sir

Upon my return home last night I found your letter. I am sorry I cannot avail myself of the flattering invitation from the Committee to dine at Yarmouth on the 29th as I have an engagement of some standing which leaves me no choice

I am My dear Sir
Yours very truly
Jacob. Astley

Melton. Sepr 26th 1832 {1}

—————

Dawson Turner has added at the top, ‘To Chr. Sayers Esq.’

{1} The last digit of the year is uncertain. The stroke which has been taken as a ‘2’ is larger than the other figures and may perhaps be simply a flourish.
