23 Bruton St, Berkeley Square. - Is sorry to tell Houghton that the subscription is in guineas; this 'will probably increase your dissatisfaction with the new Secretary [himself]', who is however 'most deeply obliged' for the payment and is 'now using your contribution as an instrument for extracting some arrears of the same amount from some recalcitrant members who will be put to shame by you'. Testifies that now all subscriptions inclusive of 1869 have been duly paid by Houghton.
