Jane Smart Hughes, the daughter of the Rev. Hugh Hughes and his wife Sarah, was baptised at St Nicolas's, Nuneaton, on 20 September 1790.
She married James Henry Monk, then Dean of Peterborough, by licence at Nuneaton on 18 September 1822. The marriage was conducted by Thomas Smart Hughes and the witnesses to were Hugh Hughes, Mary Butler, and Sophia Place.
