Archival history

This collection was presented to the Library by the Housman Society on 15 October 2019. It seems likely that most, if not all, of the papers in the first group (1) came to the Society via N. V. H. Symons, who is recorded as having shown a ‘Pandora’s Box’ of family papers to John Pugh and Joe Hunt, the joint-founders of the Society, in 1972 (Housman Society Newsletter, Sept. 2013, p. 7); but it is unclear when they came into the Society’s possession. The printed items relating to the Milton tercentenary banquet (2), which appear to have formerly belonged to A. E. Housman, were given to the Society by Jim Page in 2009. The three letters in 3 were sent to Joe Hunt as the Society’s Secretary.
