        History

John Rodwell (1780/1-1852) succeeded to the publishing business of J. Faulder at 46 New Bond Street in 1812, after a short period in partnership with him (The Pilot, 6 Jan. 1812), and was joined in business by John Martin (1791–1855) about 1816, when the first works under the joint style of Rodwell and Martin appeared. Martin retired from the partnership in 1826 (Oxford Dictionary of National Biography), and the business continued thereafter in Rodwell's sole name. Rodwell died at home in New Bond Street on 17 January 1852, aged 71 (The Patriot, 19 Jan. 1852), and was buried in the South Metropolitan Cemetery on the 22nd (burial register, via Ancestry).
