Biographical history
Born 26 June 1880 to Rev. Canon W. Jones and Margaret née Cropper in Westmorland. Clement was the youngest of six children: Agnes (who died in 1887), Herbert (Trinity 1889), Vincent, Alice, and Edith. He attended Haileybury, and was admitted to Trinity in 1899, obtaining his B.A. in 1902. He was the editor of Granta in 1901. He served in the first World War, and was part of the Dardanelles Campaign. He specialised in sea insurance and served on the board of numerous corporations, and was the author of Pioneer Shipowners, Sea Trading and Sea Training, a memoir of his brother Herbert, Memories of H. G. J., as well as A Tour in Westmorland_ and Walks in Westmorland. He was knighted in 1946.
