The one-act play 'White Lies' was written to accompany 'Black Comedy' as a double-bill when it transferred to New York. Shaffer rewrote the play with the new title 'The White Liars' for the production at the Lyric Theatre in 1968. He rewrote the play once again for the 1976 production directed by Paul Giovanni, under the title 'White Liars.'
