Scope and content
Bayeux - WW's principal acquaintance at Caen was 'M. Le Prevot, a man of very considerable station and of great intelligence. I could not induce him to give me or direct me to any estimate on the subject of your problem as to the time in which the number of proprietors is doubled by the law of equal partition; but he told me that many estimates which had been given on this subject were to be received with caution, being made by persons who are hostile to this law'. WW gives his observations on the small and large proprietors in the area and his travelling encounters in general.
