        History

        Robert Brewin was the son of Robert Brewin (1740-1821), a hosier of Leicester. He became a prosper-ous worsted spinner, served as mayor of Leicester about 1835, and later in his life resided at Birstall Hall. He inherited an interest in botany from his father, and was also a member of the Royal Astronomical Society. He died on 2 August 1860.
