My dear Sir

Upon my return home last night I found your letter. I am sorry I cannot avail myself of the flattering invitation from the Committee to dine at Yarmouth on the 29th as I have an engagement of some standing which leaves me no choice

{1} The last digit of the year is uncertain. The stroke which has been taken as a ‘2’ is larger than the other figures and may perhaps be simply a flourish.
