Collingwood - 'Cooke's is in the 5th vol of the Memoirs of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences [Josiah Parsons Cooke, 'The Relation Between the Atomic Weights', 1854] Whether his classification is a great new step you are a better judge than I am - It was new to me when I read it'. JH gives a brief review of Cooke's theory and those working in the field. JH would be obliged if WW could send him half a page explaining capillary attraction.

Letter from Synge re journal's editorial policy
Is keen to present a play by Shaffer and hopes he will return [to the UK] soon.
States that he has just seen Henry Sidgwick's letter [101/99, re compulsory Greek] issued that morning. Admits regretting having put his name to the statement, referred to as 'number "Two" ', which, he claims he did 'in haste, without verification....' Declares that it is some time since he read [Welldon's] speech. In relation to 'Dr. Jackson's point', referred to as 'number "One" ', asserts that the question is one of interpretation. Emphasises that he speaks only for himself, having consulted no one.
