St Keverne nr Falmouth. - Is the grandson of Rev. Joseph Sager, whose widow received an allowance from the late Mrs [Rachael?] Milnes; has suffered many trials; describes his progress to the West Country; no income since closing school here last Christmas; Lady Galway left £500 to Joseph Sager's children in 1837, but without the burial certificate of his father Charles he cannot claim his portion; seeks Milnes' support.
Partly copied by Annabella Hungerford Milnes.
Brunswick Hotel, Hanover Square, on paper embossed with stag crest and the motto Jay Bonne Cause. - Forwards papers on first English Bible and early English books printed on vellum for Philobiblon Society Miscellanies; requests return of MS whether used or note; perhaps Miscellanies should be sent to the British Museum and other privileged libraries.
Glasgow College. - Sends text of Hyperion copied from his copy of the 'former MS', in which some words were barely legible; line 35 of the manuscript certainly had hour where Keats meant horn; illegible word in line 253 could have been environed or enwormed; another word could have ben waste or wait; has only noted variants for the old part of the poem.
Aldenham. - Thanks for note about the Scaligers; unable to write proposed notes as he cannot adequately express his feelings on the subject; will gladly amend proof article.
'No. 29. Quiver with Arrows from Otaheite. Gift of Capt[ai]n Jam[e]s Cooke 1775'
72 Eaton Place. - Thanks for copies of Mr Venables' sketch [of her late husband]; though 'not quite what I should have liked' in some parts, it is much better than Archbishop Manning's very narrow notice in the Month and should be more widely read; sale of his books a great wrench; glad some were bought simply in his memory.
Accounts of the 'Kennedy Professorship Fund' with contributions at the beginning of the book and expenses at the back. Printed letter from E. Atkinson, Vice-Chancellor, to the Public Orator, Rev. W. G. Clark, expressing thanks to the subscribers for offering the fund to Cambridge University for the establishment of a Latin Professorship; a list of subscribers and their contributions is also printed.
11 St. Barnabas Road, Cambridge. Dated Nov. 11 1913 - Has had many letters praising Frazer's letter, and expresses his own admiration. With a MS note at bottom: 'Referring to Kiev trials, and J.G.F.'s letter disclaiming a belief in Jewish ritual murders.'
21 Carlton Terrace, S. W. - Thanks for curious Marat book; date of second letter of Lord Lyttelton on p. 57 [of the Philobiblon Miscellanies] should be 1773 instead of 1783.
Pamphlet on events connected with the St. Bartholomex Massacre of Huguenots in 1572, published 1851, Lisieux.
On printed notepaper, Chiswick Press, 21 Tooks Court, Chancery Lane, London. - Quotes stock of Vols. 2-5 of Philobiblon Miscellanies.
