University Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, Cambridge - Apologises for not writing earlier, is delighted for Frazer, and notes it is the first real recognition Anthropology has ever received; accepts an invitation to visit, is busy getting the Melanesian materials out as Dr Haddon wants to use them in his lectures.
Offers his congratulations.
18 Well Walk, Hampstead, N.W.3. - Congratulates the Frazers; was sorry to miss them when they were in London, they were away for Christmas, the family all in different places; will be freer after her son sits his examinations, teachers say he is gifted, particularly in composition.
27 Queen's Gate Gardens, S.W.7. - Congratulates J. G. Frazer.
19 Rue de Penthièvre - Congratulates the Frazers, has not seen them since the Cercle interalliée in Paris two years before; would like to write an article on 'The Golden Bough' in French and would like a copy from Sir James' hand.
Whitecroft, Nailsworth, Stroud, Gloucestershire - Saw that Frazer was given the Order of Merit the day before, was in the South of France at the new year without her address book, is now living in the Cotswolds.
01 Whewell's Court - Accepts their invitation for Friday; congratulates Sir James.
55 Rue de Varenne, VIIe. - Congratulates the Frazers; thanks her for the 'Folklore dans l'Ancien Testament'; would like to write something on the 'Leaves from the Golden Bough' on the theme 'children say they don't like fairy stories anymore'; the 'Golden Bough' explains how men first made fairy stories; Maurice returned charmed with his first trip to London; he posed for Jacques E. Blanche, and does not hide his interest in returning to London where he has independence; they are finally installed in their Tower of Babel, very near the sky, blinded by the sun which faded their carpets; Lady Frazer has spoiled Victor with the pretty little cap with the colours of the clan; how sad they will be to miss them at [Hotel] Lutetia this year; it is not easy to meet them; they have had a big storm the previous week, all the mail has been delayed.
Hotel Victoria, London, W.C.2. - Congratulates the Frazers, thanks her for letting [him?] know in advance; glad they will visit Edinburgh again, give advance notice and they will arrange a party.
Brussels - He was not aware of Alton's articles as the 'Hermathena' is not to be found in Brussels; Alton was at the Royal Library at the same time as Peeters and asking for the same MS but Peeters was never told of this; he will wait to publish until Alton's article has appeared. Accompanied by Peeters' calling card and the envelope.
Ovington Rectory, Thetford - Thanks him for his letter; shares his recollections of the customs of the Uganda tribes regarding the year: they followed lunar months, but those in agriculture thought about the year; the new year started when the first thunder of the rainy season was heard; rainmakers tried to give reasons for variances and blamed the people for the neglect of duty; is working on lectures for Cambridge, which [Thomas Callan] Hodson asked him to give, but isn't pleased with a change in terms regarding the fee. Accompanied by an envelope.

Woodcote, Godalming - Received a telegram Monday from Loeb strongly urging him to retain the 'Fasti' even if it took two volumes; saw George Macmillan and think they can agree if they settle the point of the notes, which he would like to retain, especially those for the intelligent non-subject reader; Macmillan will let him have his views in writing.
Macmillan & Co., Ltd. - Has decided on the more attractive of the specimen pages and instructed the printers to print in slips the portion he needs for the Cambridge lectures; the Commentary, Introduction and Index ought to make up a single volume; does not want him to work too much on a book outside the scope of his anthropological studies, and that would delay a second volume of 'The Worship of Nature'; had not contemplated illustrations, but 8 or 16 would do, and recommends G. F. Hill or J. Penoyre as qualified to make a selection for him.
Macmillan & Co., Ltd. - Receipt, accompanied by envelope.
Emery Walker Limited, 16 Clifford's Inn, Fleet Street, London - Has made photographs of the manuscripts of the 'Fasti' and will send proofs soon.
Bodleian Library, Oxford - Are making rotographs of the Codex Mazarinianus; can only account for the Vatican estimate by assuming they meant lire rather than pounds or that they don't want it reproduced; Bodley normally asks that photographs be deposited in a public library, but does not ask it in his case. Accompanied by a card (FRAZ/14/75) acknowledging his application for rotographs.
Woodlands, Wrecclesham, Farnham, Surrey - Is no longer resident [at Pembroke] but has a copy of the James catalogue of mss. at Pembroke, and cites No. 280; the librarian is Attwater, but perhaps Minns would be willing to help.
