The certificate of the censeur royale Prosper Jolyot de Crébillon, dated 22 Sept. 1739, authorising the play for performance, appears on f. 15v, which suggests that this manuscript was made either by or for the author. Inside the back cover is the binder’s label of Leightons, 40 Brewer Street.’ The armorial bookplate of Robert, Earl of Crewe, is pasted inside the volume and his heraldic ‘garb’ is stamped on the front cover.
