Scope and content
50 Gordon Square, W.C. - Encloses pages 1-128, which Bob should keep until he has the whole book ["Monkey", his translation of selections from "Journey to the West"?]; very grateful for help [with proofreading?]. Liked [Bob's essay] "Simple Pleasures" 'immensely' and finds 'people right & left who say it is the best thing that "Horizon" has ever printed [November 1941, pp. 304-313] . Notes in a postscript that he is still at the Min[istry] of Inf[ormation], but 'doing different work'.
Written on the reverse of a typed letter, 9 December 1941, from J M Rossie, secretary of F[umio] Fukui of the Asahi [Shimbun newspaper], to 'A Whaley' [sic]; Mr Fukui was unable to contact Waley himself, but wished to say goodbye and 'express his sorrow and regret at the present calamity'; hopes to meet Waley again one day 'under happier circumstances'.
