Scope and content

Eversfield Place, Hastings. - Thanks Ellis for his 'kind note'; has been able to get her husband down to the sea; he is 'now much improving in health' and getting stronger as quickly as can be expected 'after such a serious illness'. The delay in finishing his book [his biography of Lord Macaulay] is 'of course very mortifying to him', though it would be worse if he had been ill a year ago. He asks her to send Ellis the enclosed cheque [no longer present] and asks if Ellis can get him 'the Scotch account'.
